Notes and Policies:

The database of link information was compiled at great expense. Misappropriating the links in these collections for another business purpose is considered an unfair business practice. Damages will be pursued to fullest extent of the law. We have put countless hours into assuring this is the most complete reference source on local internet sites. If you want to do the same thing, start from scratch like we did, don't just copy ours. We notice in our logs when people systematically copy all of our alphabetical listings pages one by one. If you try to use our database and we find out about it, you will hear from us. If you want use the entries in MBIG for your own site or another business purpose, you must pay us a license fee.

What is the Madison / Dane County area, for MBIG listing purposes? We decided to focus on Madison and smaller communities within a reasonable distance that wouldn't likely fit into someone else's internet guides. One of the benefits we offer to our viewers is that we only link to local sites or those with a physical presence in the Madison/Dane area. We cover only one area, but we cover it very well.

How to find listings: If you know the name of the site or business you are looking for, try the alphabetical listings first. If you have a pretty good idea of what category it'd fall under, you can pick a category. Otherwise, please use our search engine.

Link to our site. If you use MBIG as a reference, or have a site listed in MBIG, we expect you to return the courtesy by linking to us on your pages or by letting others know about our service. Please go to our logo policy page to learn about the benefits of having a text and/or graphic link to MBIG on your site.

Hit the Reload button often! Many browsers store copies of web pages in a cache. If you try to access a page that is already in your cache, you won't necessarily see any of the new content unless you hit the Reload (or Refresh) button. This can be a real problem on a web site like this where the content is updated regularly.

You should be using a tables-capable browser. Most of them are. If you see long lines of text with no formatting and lots of  's thrown about, your browser lacks basic table manners. You might be able to stumble around without getting a new one, but it's going to be real messy. Recent versions of Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer see tables just fine.

The America Online browser has problems. If you are using AOL, you may have already noticed that some graphics don't show up at all or have colors turn transparent that shouldn't be. Those are just symptoms of fundamental flaws with their program. Other online services like Compuserve and Prodigy may have the same kind of problems. You have two options: Get an Internet Service Provider (you'll probably save money if you go online for any length of time beyond a couple of hours a month) or use the most recent version of AOL, which lets you use Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer to view web pages.

Miscellaneous MBIG policies: We reserve the right to withhold any listing in the Madison Business Internet Guide without comment. Our credibility rests on having a comprehensive list of useful links, so we won't do this lightly. We frown on multiple listings for the same business or individual under different names, although sometimes there is a big enough difference that it is warranted. A potential listing should also be local and fit into one of the main categories. We don't list personal home pages at this time unless there is a good reason for putting it into one of our main sections. Nobody is automatically entitled to a listing in MBIG. If you ask us to change the description of a site, it will be considered a suggestion, but, obviously, if the information is factually incorrect we will do our best to change it.
